Web Developer | Publishing | Remote (East Coast Australia) | Part-Time Contract

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the redesign and modernisation of an existing WordPress website to improve layout and usability.
  • Maintain and update current content, ensuring accuracy and clear navigation across journals and publications.
  • Refine and optimise visual assets, including images and graphics, in line with updated branding guidelines.
  • Improve website performance through optimisation of speed, SEO best practices, and implementation of redirect strategies.
  • Manage technical elements including hosting, DNS configuration, and integration of third-party tools such as analytics and email platforms.

Experience and skills that will deliver success in this role:

The right candidate will be a confident and self-sufficient Web Developer who can deliver a high-quality website with minimal oversight. You will be comfortable working independently, managing both creative and technical elements of a project, and delivering within defined timelines.

Essential:

  • Proven experience developing and redesigning WordPress websites.
  • Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
  • Solid understanding of UX/UI principles and responsive design.
  • Experience with SEO optimisation and improving site performance.
  • Ability to manage hosting environments, domain settings, and third-party integrations.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with publishing, academic, or content-heavy websites.
  • Familiarity with submission portals or workflow-based systems.
  • Basic graphic design or asset editing capability.

What’s on offer:

  • Weekly Rate: $560 AUD per week (based on 20 hours).
  • Working pattern: Part-time, fully remote (aligned to Australia East Coast timezone).

  • Reports to: Publisher.
